"Poop Cereal"

Rachel came up to me this morning, asking if I could get her some "poop cereal". I was so sure that I had heard her wrong. So I asked again what she wanted. And again she said, more emphatically, that she wanted "poop cereal".

I thought she was just being silly, but I went ahead and let her show me what she was talking about. And it turned out to be "Cocoa Puffs"....which, now that I think about it....looks an awful lot like....well, let's just say that Rachel wasn't all that far off :)

"Wait...what's a needle?"

Tyler was out feeding chickens and managed to get a splinter in the palm of his hand. I tried to get it out with tweezers, but it was a stubborn little sucker- and the tweezers weren't even touching it. So I told Tyler that I needed to get a needle to help get it out. He immediately started crying, and begging me NOT to use the needle.

Tyler: "Is it going to hurt?"
Mom: "A little, but it will hurt more if you leave the splinter in your hand and it gets infected."
Tyler: (crying) "But I don't want you to use a needle. Please don't use a needle. (pause) Wait...what's a needle?"

We both started laughing and I was able to take out the splinter without Tyler even realizing I had even poked him! It was great!!

"Your Cousin that eats rugs..."

Recently, while driving, my kids were asking me if I knew anyone that was in jail. I mentioned that I had a cousin who went to jail. Of course they asked why...so I had explained that he had started doing drugs and got caught stealing things in order to buy more drugs. I didn't really think much more about the conversation until just last week when Hannah begun asking me questions.

Hannah: "Mom, do you remember that cousin that likes to eat....um, what do you call it?"
Mom: "I'm not sure, honey. What are you talking about?"
Hannah: "You know. You have a cousin that likes to eat these things....it's kinda like carpet....Grandma has some at her house..."

At this point, I am all kinds of confused and completely lost. So I sat for a minute, shaking my head, trying to make sense of what she's trying to say. Then she blurted out...

Hannah: "RUGS! That's it. Rugs. Do you remember your cousin that eats rugs?"

Right there it all came together and I started laughing so hard I was practically crying.

Mom: "DRUGS, honey. Not rugs. My cousin took drugs."
Hannah: "Ohhhhh. (pause) What are drugs?"

I loved it. This whole time, Hannah thought I had a cousin who went to jail for eating rugs.
